Manie Musicale

The Grade 7/8 French Immersion class got to zoom with the Runner-up from Manie Musicale this morning! 

Manie Musicale is a month-long competition between artists & songs, created by a group of teachers (www.maniemusicale.info). Throughout the competition, which follows Basketball's March Madness schedule, students listen to songs, learn about the artists and their home countries, and vote on which song they prefer. We start out with 16 songs, ending with an ultimate champion being crowned this week. The winner was CANADIAN Corneille with his song 'Nouveau Monde' https://youtu.be/UqBErMLfSww. Some students felt he gave off 'Weekend' vibes...Mme Chimo was taken back to her Rick Astley days.

Through an organization called 'Young Global Citizens - Jeunes citoyens du monde', we were able to take part in a zoom session with the one & only Amir, who was runner-up in Manie Musicale with his duo with Indila called 'Carousel'. (https://youtu.be/_8ppYcu7ZHY) 

Many great questions were asked, and he was very gracious to have taken the time to visit with our group of students from all over the world! When asked for his final thoughts, he said he was overwhelmed by the support of French Immersion students from around the world and so pleased that we can bridge every country and culture with one common language. He commended the students on their dedication to learning a second language and encouraged them to keep going as it will lead to so many global opportunities.
