School Goals
School Goals
We are now referring to school goals as our Continuous Improvement Plan. Our division goals focus on wellness, literacy, and numeracy. The continuous improvement plan involves a process to support staff in narrowing down (in each school) what that looks like in each of our own contexts. We have jumped into that process. The specifics of our goal will be updated once it is fine tuned.
I can share that the whole division has done a literacy launch to support all students who are struggling to read K-12. That is a big part of what we are doing this year. The UFLI program in K-4 will be thorough and some students that need reinforcement will be offered a double dose. Gr.5-8 students will be working through a program called “Rewards” to help fill reading gaps that they may have. There will be a process of regular screenings, assessments, progress monitoring, and reporting. Report cards this year will speak to students’ success with reading and if they are not at grade level there will be information explaining what interventions we are doing to support them.
We believe there is a huge connection between students learning, their behavior, their academic success and attendance. We believe that building students’ confidence to read is going to be positive in supporting attendance, behavior, further academic success, and overall health.
More will be shared as we work through this new process working through the continuous improvement plan and our new approach to literacy.
