Northern Lights Institute of Trades & Technology is an entity of the Swan Valley School Division. NITT’s mandate is to be a catalyst in providing job-ready skills and training to communities in our region. Our vision is to assist students, former and otherwise to earn job-ready skills so they are prepared for today’s workforce.
Skills such as Level One in our seven apprenticeship trades areas:
• Carpentry
• Electrical
• Welding
• Heavy Duty
• Automotive
• Hairstyling
• Culinary Arts
Job Ready Skills training offered:
• Early Childhood Education II
• Motion Picture Art
• Applied Commerce
• Microsoft Office Certification - Online
We also broker with other colleges and universities to bring timely training to the region. NITT is currently running Early Childhood Education II training through the Louis Riel Vocational College, Class 1 Truck Driver Training (MELT) through Professional Transport Driver Training School as well as providing guidance through the University of Winnipeg with a Community-based Teacher Education Program (CATEP)

Where does training take place?
NITT training happens at the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School Campus in Swan River, Manitoba. The Swan River Valley lies amidst the Duck Mountains and Porcupine Hills, located on the traditional territory of The Cree, The Saulteaux, The Dakota Nations, and on the homeland of the Red River Métis. The town of Swan River rests near the Saskatchewan border in west-central Manitoba, serving as a central point for nearby communities like Benito, Bowsman, Birch River, Minitonas, Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation, Pine Creek First Nation and numerous other locales in the region.
