Envirothon 2021

HeyesEnvirothon005

Every spring, the NCF hosts a Manitoba Envirothon competition for high school students. This year, the competition was opened up to middle years students (grades 6-8). Envirothon is an annual competition based on environmental concepts (soils, plants and forestry, aquatics, wildlife, and watershed management). Students receive binders and resources to study months prior to the competition, which was May 3 to May 7. Five grade 6 students at Heyes participated in the competition this year. They worked tremendously hard, attended several zoom meetings, and spent the week completing experiments, critical thinking, creating a 10-minute oral presentation and completing a lengthy test. Congratulations to The Evergreens who consisted of Calli Goethe, Emma Henkelman, Josie Friesen, Ashlynn Brow, and Benjamin Poole who were awarded 1st place in the Middle Years category!
