Our History
The Swan Valley School Division was established in 1967. The vision and collaborative efforts of the School Division, the Province of Manitoba and the Government of Canada resulted in the building of the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School.
The school would provide a comprehensive education to high school students from grades 10 - 12.

In addition to the regular high school curriculum, the education program also provided vocational education to students in the areas of Business and Marketing, Cosmetology, Commercial Art, Electricity/Electronics, Family and Community Studies, Food Services, Power Mechanicals, Resource and Environmental Management and Welding

The Swan Valley Regional Secondary School opened in September 1972 providing comprehensive educational opportunity to the students of the whole Swan Valley region.
High Schools in Benito, Birch River, Bowsman, Minitonas and Swan River closed to facilitate these opportunities. These former high school facilities serve the Kindergarten to grade 8 and senior 1 educational needs of their respective communities.

The school later added music to its programming.

It has always provided a strong interscholastic athletic program.

The school has a reputation for excellence in all its areas of endeavour.

It functions as a vibrant community school, characterized by a continuing education program, Campus Manitoba, university by distance education, recreational use and many active partnerships with the community. From the time it opens at 7:00 am in the morning until it closes at 12:00 am at night, it is filled with learning enterprise and activity.

Staff subscribe to the principle that education must be current, relevant and actively engage students, pursuing the total development of the student, the intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions.

The community, which is a community of communities, is very proud of its school and lends support to its vast array of endeavour.

In addition to serving the educational needs of students from the communities of Alpine, Benito, Bellsite, Birch River, Bowsman, Cowan, Durban, Kenville, Lenswood, Mafeking, Minitonas, and Swan River, the school serves students from the First Nations of Sapotaweyak, Wuskwi Sipihk and Pine Creek, and the Frontier Division Communities of Barrows, Dawson Bay, Pelican Rapids and Briggs Spur.
