Swan
Valley Regional Secondary School (SVRSS)
SVRSS is located in Swan River, Manitoba and is the only high school
in the Swan Valley School Division. The student population is approximately
640 with staff of 36 teachers. A radius of about 90 kilometers defines
the school's catchment area. Most students are bused daily from
Swan River. Some students from Frontier School Division, Pine Creek
Reserve, Sapotaweyak Reserve and Wuskwisipihk Reserve are placed
in home placements during the week and then return to the reserve
on weekends. SVRSS offers both academic and the technological programming.

Our logo is a flaming torch formed from the stylized acronym of
our school name.
As light from the flaming torch, learning illuminates the journey
of life.
Throughout the journey we nurture the flame and pass it on with
the pride to illuminate future generations.
Our Purpose
As a community school we are a center for learning, providing
educational opportunity for senior years high school students
and the community in general.
We pursue the fulfillment of our purpose in an atmosphere of cooperation
among students, staff, parents, business, industry, government
and other educational institutions.
Our History
The Swan Valley School Division was established in 1967. The vision
and collaborative efforts of the School Division, the Province
of Manitoba and the Government of Canada resulted in the building
of the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School.
The school would provide a comprehensive education to high school
students from grades 10 - 12.
In addition to the regular high school curriculum, the education
program also provided vocational education to students in the
areas of Business and Marketing, Cosmetology, Commercial Art,
Electricity/Electronics, Family and Community Studies, Food Services,
Power Mechanicals, Resource and Environmental Management and Welding
The Swan Valley Regional Secondary School opened in September
1972 providing comprehensive educational opportunity to the students
of the whole Swan Valley region.
High Schools in Benito, Birch River, Bowsman, Minitonas and Swan
River closed to facilitate these opportunities. These former high
school facilities serve the Kindergarten to grade 8 and senior
1 educational needs of their respective communities.
The school later added music to its programming.
It has always provided a strong interscholastic athletic program.
The school has a reputation for excellence in all its areas of
endeavour.
It functions as a vibrant community school, characterized by
a continuing education program, Campus Manitoba, university by
distance education, recreational use and many active partnerships
with the community. From the time it opens at 7:00 am in the morning
until it closes at 12:00 am at night, it is filled with learning
enterprise and activity.
Staff subscribe to the principle that education must be current,
relevant and actively engage students, pursuing the total development
of the student, the intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual
dimensions.
The community, which is a community of communities, is very proud
of its school and lends support to its vast array of endeavour.
In addition to serving the educational needs of students from
the communities of Alpine, Benito, Bellsite, Birch River, Bowsman,
Cowan, Durban, Kenville, Lenswood, Mafeking, Minitonas, and Swan
River, the school serves students from the First Nations of Sapotaweyak,
Wuskwi Sipihk and Pine Creek, and the Frontier Division Communities
of Barrows, Dawson Bay, Pelican Rapids and Briggs Spur. The school
is also a school of choice for students from throughout Manitoba
and Saskatchewan.
