Philosophy

We believe it is an exciting time to be a teacher in schools. As leaders we help design the future and have the opportunity to make a real difference for students, families and our local community. We believe teaching is a noble profession with a mandate from society to engage in the most important task of our time, to nurture, prepare, and instill a passion for learning in our greatest human resource, our young people.

Mission Statement

To educate, inspire, and respect each other.

Vision

A school community that has a caring, respectful atmosphere, motivating and inspiring each student to achieve and exceed their goals.

Culture

To enhance our school climate we have chosen to focus on the following:

1. Communication
2. Cooperation
3. Honesty
4. Participation
5. Tolerance
6. Accountability
7. Respect
8. Flexibility
9. Clarity of Purpose
10. Talent/Skills

These characteristics are not only being pursued, they are becoming common practice. The interesting thing is the higher you climb up the list, the more relational and less technical it becomes. So, you might say, our culture is that of a caring school, where a win/win situation is being created. We provide a high level of active, assertive supervision. We are proactive and keep incidents in perspective, focussing on how the student will learn to do better tomorrow.

Technology

Each teacher must acquire the level of skill necessary to do their administrative tasks as well as guide the students through the software programs that best suit their needs. Computer lab time is scheduled for each classroom in various subject areas. The mandate is to utilize the technology that we have to enhance our existing programs.

Programs

A good program is the result of a school performing the following functions well: planning, staffing, organizing, directing, coordination, reporting and budgeting with the success of the students in mind. Our regular academic program follows the Manitoba Education guidelines as it relates to course offerings.

We feel our curriculum is set up to teach the following skills:

1. Basic - reads, writes, performs mathematical operations, listens, and speaks well

2. Thinking - thinks critically, makes decisions, solves problems, visualizes, knows how to learn and reason

3. Personal Skills - displays responsibility, self-esteem, sociability, self-management, integrity and honesty

Evaluation

We utilize a computer generated report card. The software is called, Grade Quick. It is an extremely powerful and versatile program. It allows us to design our own detailed individual or group reports, enter individual customized assignments, calculate marks quickly and print unlimited reports. With this software, we will be sending a complete report card home during the three reporting periods, along with interim individualized reports from each subject area throughout the year. Progress conferences where students, parents and teachers discuss the students' development will continue.
